WHO Declares Ebola Outbreak in DRC a Public Health Emergency
The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.
According to reports, the outbreak has already claimed 100 lives in the DRC, with 300 people currently sick. The virus has also crossed into neighboring Uganda, where several people have tested positive.
Health officials face significant challenges in containing the outbreak. The strain involved is rare and has no available vaccine. Additionally, cases have emerged in a conflict-affected region, making access and response efforts extremely difficult.
Authorities are urging heightened vigilance and international cooperation to prevent further spread of the deadly disease.
