Dramatic start of FDH premiership
FDH bank committed their services to sponsor Super league of Malawi in 2026/27 season with K5 billion but during the lunch game unexpected happened as the game was not played due to venue restrictions.
Currently FDH bank has suspended all its sponsorship towards sporting activities and decision to be made later on after carefully looking into other issues.in response to this super league of Malawi apologies to the sponsor and all stakeholders involved.
Fleetwood Haiya,President of football association of Malawi(FAM) said FAM did nothing wrong but following rules and regulations that are there in football. The issue of facilities is handled by the First Instance Body [FIB] which operates independently and we do not interfere in its operations or decisions and that is why in 2025, they banned Mpira Stadium, which we own and, assuming we had the powers, we would have overturned that decision,” he said.
Haiya also apologized to stakeholders, including sponsors FDH Bank plc, clubs, fans and the government for the impasse that led to the postponement of the K5 billion FDH Premiership launch at Kamuzu Stadium.” We apologise for the inconvenience caused. We stuck to our guns in the interest of all our stakeholders, including the sponsor, fans and government. We want to protect the lives of the fans and we want to protect the interest of the sponsor,” he said.
Henry Gome, one of sports analysts suggested that inspections of the stadium should happen regularly.Going forward inspections of the studying should not be at the beginning on the season but regularly be it three weeks or monthly to make sure everything is in good condition, but if we continue with this are going to put people’s life at risk,he said.”
Calls for better coordination between FAM and SULOM.“I am deeply disappointed by the lack of communication from the football authorities,Fans travelled long distances and incurred expenses in good faith and to have the match cancelled without prior notice is both disrespectful and unacceptable. There must be better coordination between the Football Association of Malawi and the Super League to protect the interests of the very people who sustain the sport “she said.
Wanderers Supporter,Funny Mwasamba shows her dissatisfaction towards decision made. The cancellation of the match without formal communication is a recurring issue that needs urgent redress. We urge the relevant bodies to establish clear communication protocols and ensure transparency in future scheduling to restore confidence among supporters.”she said.
